The fair debt collection act is a federal statute applicable to the conduct of Debt Collectors restricting the hours you can be contacted, the type of conduct they can engage in and the limited scope of what they can say.
For example…. A Debt Collector cannot call you at 2:00 A.M. and say they are from a law enforcement agency coming to arrest you and your children to serve the rest of your lives in Debtors prison with your parents who have been picked up earlier in the day. I have seen Collectors brazen enough to do this.
